| If you’re a fitness creator trying to grow your YouTube channel, it can be tempting to jump right into the topic of what you want to talk about. For example, let’s say your script is about how to lose belly fat. It’s tempting to just start talking about “how to lose belly fat.” And I understand why. You want to get to the point. You don’t want the reader to be bored. And you want to lead with authority to show you know what you’re talking about. But the truth is… If you don’t earn the click first, the person hasn’t stopped in the tracks yet to actually want to hear about the topic. They have to feel something before moving on. For example, here’s a recent example from Mr. Beast. The title of the script is “I survived the most extreme places in the world.” That already sounds interesting. But notice the first line of the script. Mr. Beast opens with “We’re in the world’s most deadliest jungle.” Ok, now I’m really interested. The camera also zooms in to give you the feeling of being “sucked in.” Then he explains what the video is about. Do you see how that works? He could’ve led with what the video was about. But if he did that, it wouldn’t have the same punch. The “we’re in the world’s most deadliest jungle” immediately sets the scene, creates urgency and gets the viewers blood flowing. Now, you might not have as crazy of an example as Mr. Beast. There’s a reason he gets millions of views on each video. But you can also do this with your own scripts. What’s your own version of the jungle? If you’re a fitness creator, maybe it’s the late-night snacking and looking at the fridge. Maybe it’s the jungle of looking at restaurant menus and never knowing the healthiest thing to eat. Or having your friends pressure you into wanting to eat something you know you shouldn’t. Think about a way you could get the reader to go “what the heck is this?” before you get into the main topic. If you can master this, you’ll see your retention rates go up. And you’ll have more viewers checking out your main offers. That’s the difference between opening up with your own jungle vs. having your video feel like reading an encyclopedia. Until next time.
